Experience and Philosophy

Arthurs Seat Trail Rides is a family-run establishment that has been shaping riders and horses for over forty years, led by three generations of women: Elisabeth, Robyn, and Charli.

Elisabeth and her husband Ozzie purchased the property in 1984, with Elisabeth bringing her passion for riding from her dairy farm upbringing, while Ozzie transitioned from running a service station.

When Elisabeth and Ozzie retired Robyn took the reins of Arthurs Seat Trail Rides, continuing the legacy of the family business. Under her leadership, the focus has been on natural horsemanship.

Robyn, who has been riding for 50 years and teaching for 36, took over the trail rides and infused her experiences from the National Trail and natural horsemanship training.

The approach emphasises clear communication and leadership, moving away from traditional, domineering methods. Central to their philosophy is the concept of "join up," which earns trust and understanding between horse and rider.

By focusing on the unique language of horses, the team at Arthurs Seat aims to build confidence and strong leadership among riders. They recognise that poor communication can lead to horses being misunderstood and labeled troublesome, ultimately hindering their potential.

The end goal is to cultivate soft, happy, and willing horses that feel safe and valued. The increasing interest in natural horsemanship across disciplines reflects a broader movement toward better connections between riders and their horses, something that has become a hallmark of Arthurs Seat Trail Rides.
